About the Society
Across Africa, biodiversity is rich yet remains vastly underrepresented in global genomic repositories. At the same time, too little scientific evidence is translated into real-life solutions for the continent’s most pressing challenges. RECOURSE was born from the conviction of both scientists and students that this gap could no longer be ignored. RECOURSE was born as recourse i.e., a source of help in difficult times. RECOURSE represents a collective resource for scientists to turn to in advancing research and conservation.
Built on a spirit of collaboration, RECOURSE brings together established scientists willing to share their expertise and nurture the next generation. It also provides a professional and stable platform for researchers, especially those with uncertain institutional affiliations, to host and manage their grants efficiently—free from the constraints of rigid bureaucracies.
Our Mission
RECOURSE works to grow a critical mass of proficient African scientists by fostering collaboration, mentorship, and shared expertise. It is committed to ensuring Africa’s biodiversity is better represented in global scientific knowledge and genomic resources. At the same time, it provides a trusted platform where scientists can manage their grants and research projects with ease and efficiency. Above all, RECOURSE seeks to strengthen the bridge between empirical science and practical solutions, ensuring that research directly contributes to addressing Africa’s most urgent challenges.
